The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) is a lifestyle change program developed to prevent Type 2 Diabetes. It is designed specifically for people who have prediabetes or are at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes.

Throughout the year-long class, a trained lifestyle coach helps participants focus on long-term changes and lasting results. A year sounds like a long commitment, but throughout the program, participants learn new habits, gain new skills, and build confidence to eat better and become more active. Click the link below to view a short introductory video regard NDPP.

The National Diabetes Prevention Program is a research-based program that works! Participants can expect to benefit by:

  • Losing 5 to 7% body weight (just 10 to 14 pounds for a 200 pound individual)

  • Incorporating 150 minutes of weekly physical activity into a busy schedule

  • Learning how to eat healthy

Many South Dakotans have found success in the NDPP. In South Dakota in 2015, NDPP participants lost an average of 7% of their body weight. In 2016, participants lost an average of 5% of their body weight.
